FAQ's

  • How Much of a Time Commitment is there?

This is probably the most common reaction. Zeta Tau Alpha has one chapter meeting a week which generally lasts an hour on Sunday evenings. This is the time in which the chapter can talk as a unit about upcoming events of both fundraising and social aspects.  If a sister chooses to become an officer, then there are addtional meetings. There are other optional events throughout the semester.

Will joining a greek organization affect grades?

ZTA expects its chapters to strive for academic excellence, not be content with mediocrity. Everyone undergraduate Zeta is expected to maintian a record of academic accomplishment that is commernsurate with her ablity and to do academic work that represents her best efforts.

How does paying the dues work?

ZTA operates through an online banking system called billhighway.  This banking system is used by all 150 ZTA chapters across the nation.  There are many ways to work out paying for dues, and the Treasurer takes each sister into an individual account when setting up a payment plan.  The dues are necessary in order to pay national dues, house fees, sisterhood and social events throughout the year as well as to keep the chapter thriving and growing.

Why is it called a Fraternity and not a Sorority?

ZTA is known as a fraternity, not a sorority. A “fraternity” is an organization whose members have banded together for reasons of common interest and mutual benefit. There is usually some element of secrecy in its design. Some women’s organizations prefer sorority, while others designate the use of fraternity. It was the intent of the Founders, and confirmed by action at two early conventions, that Zeta Tau Alpha be designated as a fraternity. This was done to distinguish ZTA from the sisterhoods organized in connection with men’s fraternities, called sororities.

Are there any events where my parents can come?

Kappa Iota host a family picnic every spring. This is an opportunity for your parents to come and meet your sisters and learn about the sisterhood that we all share.  This is also an opportunity for the parents to meet our chapter's advisors and ask any other questions they may have.
